The emerald cut diamond, in its most recognised form, as shown here, will have a greater length than its width, we refer to this as its ratio. The length and width in this type of diamond can vary significantly from diamond to diamond with many options available.

Very careful selection is required as this cut type is very un-forgiving of bad shape and poor symmetry. It is also often easy to see inclusions within the diamond if the grade is too low. Generally we would suggest not less that VS grade in clarity for an emerald cut, although just selection an arbitrary grade in any diamond is not as easy as it sounds, extreme care needs to be taken selecting this cut type.
