Square radiant cut diamonds are a bit of a hybrid type of cut, the general exterior shape is like a square emerald cut diamond, however with a greater number of facets the cut can have the look of the princess cut, just minus the corners. Although it should be said, is not generally faceted in the same way as the princess cut diamond.
The configuration of the faceting on these diamond can vary, so it is very important to match up the cut if the ring design contains more that one radiant.
Square radiant cut diamond tend to be a more versatile diamond shape than say a princess cut, ( from a design point of view ), because the corners are not so prominent, it is also a great diamond type for “Art Deco” styles, having very geometric lines.
The GIA gives this diamond type the designation “Cut-Cornered Square Modified Brilliant” on the certification it provides, yes its a bit of a mouthful, we just stick to Square Radiant Cut.
