This is the part where I get to tell everyone how great we are, tell all the tall stories about how gifted we were as kids and how close I personally have come to being awarded the nobel prize for services to the jewellery industry. . .
Well OK, I’ll give it a go. However, at this point, I should just say that I think its better for people without self-interest to tell you what we are capable of, so please read the “Testimonials” page after you get bored with this bit.
My name is Ian, I‘ve been in the jewellery trade for over 30 years, starting my apprenticeship in the UK before heading to Aus to make my fortune ( still working on that part ) .
As a jeweller and diamond setter, I can say it is a never ending learning curve and the more experience you have the better.
I personally have clocked up well over 70,000 hours sitting at the jewellery bench, its never dull, although it can be tedious on occasion.
When you put that many hours in to making jewellery, you tend to get the hang of it.
Our jewellers have also gained much experience over the years, collectively adding up to many decades making shiny things.
At Ellissi, we are not like the main street stores you wander into, where you can be made to feel uncomfortable, asking for information from sales staff whose knowledge often leaves a lot to be desired as their training is limited.
Our studio workshop, located in the heart of Melbourne, is as hands on as you can get, unless you are making the ring yourself. There are no designated sales staff. The people you deal with are the people who will design and make your ring.
We import diamonds directly from the cutters, so we can obtain the best possible diamond for the budget you have.
I take a great deal of care to explain and show to clients the various aspects of the diamonds we sell. It is a very complex area, understanding why one diamond is a lower price than another can make an enormous difference to your decision.
Which diamond represents is best value for money and which areas of diamond quality you should be most vigilant about, requires good guidance. It is not just a case of pick a grade of diamond and buy the cheapest. I think it is an important part of the process, informing clients as much as possible about their purchase.
In terms of money and significance, the purchase of an engagement ring is one of the most important decisions we make.
We have clients from all over Australia and overseas, many we never get to meet. It is now possible with the aid of email and digital photography as well as talking to people over the telephone, to give a really clear demonstration of the work we do.
Many clients make their purchase in this way if they are not able to get in to see us in person.
If you are in Melbourne, we are happy to meet and discuss your requirements. However, as we are manufacturers, appointments must be made. Please don’t hesitate to contact me to make an appointment or discuss your requirements.
I am more that happy to respond via email if you have any detailed questions about the process of making your engagement ring, all you need do is ask.
